Image Stabilization

Image stabilization (IS) is a family of techniques to increase the stability of an image. Different companies have different names for this technology: Image Stabilization (IS - Canon, the first to produce an OIS lens), Vibration Reduction (VR - Nikon), MegaOIS (Panasonic), Super Steady Shot (SSS - Sony) and Shake Reduction (SR - Pentax). A pair of "steady hands" is something that we do not possess at moments when we wanted to!. Image stabilization comes handy to stabilize the object that we wanted to capture. Look for the IS setting (Canon) and set to ON. Image blurring occurs more when you zoom-in more. When IS is set, this blurring is reduced considerably. Another simple technique to stabilize image is to use tripod. Always remember to "turn-off" IS when you use a tripod. It can reduce image quality and is generally unnecessary. The more functionality the camera employs the more battery power it draws. Hence turning the IS off when on tripod will increase the battery time.
